Bass Grooves - Bass Guitar Lessons

I recommend to my guitar students bass guitar lessons and bass grooves to improve their rhythmic sense. Jamming along with a drum machine or preferably a real drummer locks you into the meter. I personally studied classical 4-part harmony which was great for learning melody contour in Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass. First I had an electric guitar, then a bass, everybody seemed to like my bass guitar lessons and bass grooves in all styles of music. I studied Paul McCartney on bass as he was apparently an orchestra leader at 14 years of age. His ability to compose counterpoint and highly melodic bass lines is unique. John Entwistle of The Who was great for holding down their powerful rock sound. Of course there was Jack Bruce of the Cream who could roll along and hold down wild bass grooves with Ginger Baker while Clapton soloed. I studied Alfonso Johnson, Stanley Clarke and the legendary Jaco Pastorius. For real syncopated laid back bass grooves you can't beat reggae bass players! I feel like I already know all the secret techniques of how to play a guitar so I decided to teach bass too. I also give bass guitar lessons because being an expert in theory, many a bassist wants to enhance their improvisation and technique skills. I teach kids every week and day by day their guitar playing is improving, that's why I knew I would be good to teach guitar and bass skills side by side. The most important thing is to make them interested in playing bass guitar grooves over chord changes. Start from rudimentary bass guitar playing using arpeggios and modes and then learning how to create II-V-I lines. For the best bass guitar students I end up recording and gigging with them. Most bass guitarists are very laid back. My improvisation courses are a good method for motivating them to come and play, create lines and improvise over anything. Bass guitar grooves are a crucial part of any musicians daily food in terms of practise. Slap and Pop bass grooves are now a contemporary fad for many guitarists nowadays too. Having gigged with Henry Thomas, Andy Herbert, Boz Burrell and Big Joe Turner, I consider myself to understand bass grooves to a very high level as, I have played with the best at close range!
