I couldn't believe it myself, but blues rhythm guitar lessons had brought me to crime. I simply needed an exact replica of my neighbours guitar to continue my present blues rhythm guitar lessons so I could try and win a blues contest with a recording contract as the 1st prize. I was so skint, desperate, in debt and working 6 days a week, 18 hours a day. I needed out of my miserable lifstyle. Why bother with a replica when I could have the real thing? There I was, only silence and me alone in the attic. I had a very small lamp with me with a very weak battery. Already, since last Thursday after I finished my last blues rhythm guitar lessons, I was waiting for the chance when everybody would leave the house so I could get inside and take my treasure. Yes, I was obsessed, possessed with the thought that this guitar was a rare treasure and my dream was to make it mine, no matter how or what I had to do.
My parents had a very small salary and sometimes between us there was not enough money to pay all the bills. So the dream of having my own guitar became my only reason to live? Why? It was my ticket out of this ghetto. I had come to the end of my tether. I would take this guitar from my neighbour and escape, maybe they wouldn't even notice that it had been stolen. Should I steal it or not? After my next blues rhythm guitar lessons which were a week away, I could jam in the contest, which was hard core blues music and this guitar was needed, an obvious tool with which to participate. I hoped I'd be the best as I had practised playing at my blues rhythm guitar lessons so much my fingers bled! I could win the 1st prize, then buy my own blues guitar and then give it back. I always dreamed of a Dobro, a Stratocaster or a mean Telecaster. Was it all worth it, should I take the risk or ask John Mizarolli to lend me one of his spare guitars for the competition? After all Mizarolli was rated as the best blues player in the UK by BB Kings bassist for 5 years, Big Joe Turner, a legend himself.
