I play a little rhythm guitar, strum a few chords but I still don't know how to play lead guitar. Maybe I'll never achieve a professional standard in lead guitar but it would be cool to pick out melodies from songs or the radio. I envy guitarists who know how to play lead guitar. They seem to have an air of freedom about them. My first contact with guitar playing was only few months ago, until then I had only one lesson with my music teacher. He knows how to play lead guitar proficiently and records his own cds as well as his own guitar solos.
We both admire Carlos Santana for his professional playing, beautiful feel and pure guitar creativity, it seems he simply was born with talent and knows perfectly how to play lead guitar. A guitar teacher like Santana would be great, but obviously I can only dream about such a possibility. I've never had the opportunity to go to one of Santana's concert, but I am hoping the possibility will arise one day to hear this zen master perform live. How to play lead guitar like a master of guitar playing seems so mysterious to me. I actually sent him a letter two weeks ago with a brave request, asking if he could teach me how to play lead guitar, should he be in town. It's simply a blind dream. If he replied I wouldn't have to look for any other guitar teacher for years. To at least show me the basics of how to play lead guitar, would be an inspiring intro into soloing.
