John Mizarolli began guitar at the age of 7 as a classical guitarist. He then continued to play classical guitar for about 12 years, reaching grade VI practical and grade VIII theory, Royal Associated Board of Music.

His father, Sophocles Mizarolli was a classical guitar player and street musician for many years in Cyprus, and he passed on his talents in harmony, reading and feel at an early age.

The right handed P I M A finger techniques of classical guitar pieces by Segovia, Bach and Villa Lobos were a great contribution to fingerstyle guitar and he retained this technique, later applying it to acoustic guitar and acoustic blues.
